Helen Mountfort: "We've been having a ball since October last year chipping away on and off at our new album The Revival Meeting. We love it how its turned out. Its always a thing trying to keep Cake sounding like Cake but making it just a wee bit different from anything we've done before, but we feel like we've nailed it with this album. Tomorrow we finish the mixing which means we have to stop obsessing about getting every little detail just right. Are the strings too loud? Does that backing vocal in the first chorus? That sort of stuff. David's written some ripper songs, his usual mixture of black humour and gentle musings on the general weirdness of life. And there are six sparkling instrumentals in there, two of which feature mandolin parts played by our dearly departed and very much missed mandolin player Andrew Carswell which is pretty special. He gets the last (quiet and thoughtful) word on the album, which is pretty much how it was in Cake when he was around. Now we are looking forward to getting out on the road with this album. Songs always mutate so much in the studio the next step is going to be working out how to play them live in all these gorgeous venues we have lined up. Twenty- eight years and still kicking. Viva Le Cake!"

about

My Friend The Chocolate Cake Melbourne, Australia

Their name alone should have ensured a quiet life. No one dreamed of ARIA awards, two years of sold-out Edinburgh Festival dates or the kind of ageless and eternally devoted audience. Somewhere within the unlikely union of kitchen sink piano tales, vivid chamber orchestration and hell-raising instrumental shenanigans, the Melbourne band has carved out a 20 year, seven album history. ... more
